Consider Electric Scooter Repair Rather Than Buying

It May Be More Viable to Repair Your Scooter Than to Replace It

When we look at the cost of compact folding electric scooters, we have to stop and wonder if it wouldn't be better to opt for repairing your electric scooter, rather than just replacing it. Both electric scooter repairs and replacements have their benefits, but they also have their downfalls as well. On one hand, the costs of scooters are dropping considerably. On the other hand, we don't always have the funds to rush out and buy a new one. Scooters aren't readily covered by medical insurance and buying one is a major purchase decision that requires a little budgeting. Should we repair an existing scooter? Should we replace it? As with most purchases, it all depends on what you want and/or need from your scooter. In general, purchasing a new scooter isn't necessary unless you're entirely dissatisfied with the one you have and you seek a newer model with advanced features, faster speed, and overall better performance.

Your existing 3 wheel or 4 wheel machine may have all the features you want, but may lack only one or two features that could be enhanced with a little repair. You can find out whether your existing scooter can be "upgraded" by calling its manufacturer or looking over your scooter's warranty. Some warranties only provide battery replacement, or they repair light damages incurred from natural wear and tear, but you might find additional information that offers a limited number of free replacement parts or servicing. Call the manufacturer and discuss what your warranty does and doesn't cover. In the event that your warranty does provide service upgrades, ask how to initiate the process and find out the costs involved.

As an alternative, you can call a few repair shops to see if they're knowledgeable about medical disability scooters. If so, you can ask how they can help you accommodate your personal travel needs. If you can, get a few estimates of the costs involved in addition to the length of time it will take to make the upgrade. It may be necessary for your repair person to view the scooter's warranty before performing any work. Often times, a warranty becomes void if the product is manipulated in a way that violates the terms in the warranty.
