Wheel Maintenance on Your Mobility Scooter

Taking Care of Mobility Scooter Wheels is an Important Process

There's probably nothing stressed as most important than the wheel maintenance on your mobility scooter. The reasons for this are fairly obvious - as their the things that encounter the rugged outdoors more than any other part of the machine. The following offers a few suggestions to help you keep your medical scooter wheels in working condition for as long as you use them.

First things first, clean your wheels every day you take your mobility scooter outside. Depending on the conditions outside, you may need to do a bit of heavy cleaning (such as in snow or mud-producing rain), or light cleaning (such as in light-dust producing winds). Don't be fooled by light dust however. If you let it collect, it will be more difficult to remove later on.

To prevent unnecessary dirt and debris from accumulating on the wheels of your three wheel or four wheel mobility scooter, store it indoors either in an easy to access garage or basement. If the scooter won't be used much - say during the winter season for example, store it in an environment that's as dust free as possible.

When possible, take routes that will produce the least amount of war and tear on your scooter's tires. Riding along rough roads will shorten the life of your tires much more quickly than riding along smooth pavement. This isn't always possible, but when there's a choice, think about the longevity of your tires when you can, and then select a less harmful path.

If you're not sure which chemicals to use to clean your tires, consult your motor scooter's user manual or contact the motor scooter's manufacturer. The company in question will probably even have a line of special cleaning products especially developed for motor scooter tire care.
