The Advantages and Disadvantages of A Light Mobility Scooter
Is a Mobility Scooter Worth all the Trouble and Fuss?
The advantages and disadvantages of a light mobility scooter are
many, however probably the most prevalent benefit is its ability to reduce stress on the body. Unlike with wheelchairs, scooter users never need
to strain, lean, or physically bend to move the machine. A lightweight scooter's electronic components allow the machine to move itself with a
minimal amount of steering. In addition, the durability of scooters last longer than the physical body. This is especially important to those who
are disabled with fatigue or some other condition that just doesn't allow for lengthy strenuous activity. The scooter’s ability to propel itself
is especially important for the severely handicapped, such as those who've suffered a spinal injury or something that has restricted almost all
body movement.
The problem with electric medical disability machines however, lies in society - not with the machines nor
the persons who use them. Although governments are continually updating and improving current accessibility laws, it still isn't enough.
Publicly accessible ramps aren't as accessible as they’re supposed to be, planned, or built. So-called
accessible areas are sometimes impossible to use. People aren't as considerate as they could be when having to wait for a personal, light
scooter to travel and pass them. And general traffic laws don't make accommodations for three-wheel or four-wheel scooters - nor the people
who use them.
Considering these disadvantages, is purchasing, owning, and using a folding, medical battery-operated scooter worth it? The answer is a
resounding yes - especially if you're one who's currently bound to the home due to a disability. The disadvantages that we've outlined are
seemingly temporarily, as we diligently wait for public officials to make improvements in accessible segments of society. The advantages that
we've outlined however, are apparently permanent.
The advantages and disadvantages of a light mobility scooter aren't to be taken lightly.
